Reproduction

Broodmare Management

Hess Equine is equipped to perform stall side breeding soundness evaluations, uterine culture, uterine biopsy (if needed), and routine breeding tract ultrasound examinations to determine readiness for breeding, ovulation, and identification of successful pregnancy.

Routinely we recommend and perform ultrasound evaluation of pregnancy at days 15, 18, 28, 60, 120, and more for high risk mares.

Artificial Insemination (AI)

Our veterinarians are able to perform artificial insemination with fresh, cooled, and frozen semen. Based upon the type of semen available for your chosen stallion and the shipping requirements, we will develop the best possible protocol to efficiently manage artificial insemination of your mare.

Neonatal Care

We recommend that all foals have a neonatal examination performed between 12-24 hours of age including routine baseline bloodwork (CBC, Fibrinogen, IgG). This in-depth physical examination combined with hematology helps us identify sick and at-risk foals early so that we can intervene quickly and aggressively with appropriate treatment.

Our team provides an array of on farm neonatal treatments of septic foals, maladjusted foals, contracted tendons, septic joints, angular limb deformities and more.
